Safety Plans

If you’re in danger NOW – phone the POLICE 111

  • Run outside – head for where there are other people
  • Scream for help – let the neighbours hear you
  • Take the children – with you and make sure they are also safe
  • Don’t stop – to get anything else.

The Women’s Refuge is available 24 hours a day via their crisis phone line (07) 541 1911.Womens Refuge offers 24-hour access to emergency safe house shelter, community support, and advocacy services.

If you’re Planning to Leave, make a safety plan. Try to take…

  • Important papers – birth certificates, drivers licence, any court documents
  • Credit cards, bank account numbers, and ATM cards
  • Some money
  • An extra set of keys
  • Medications and prescriptions
  • Phone numbers and addresses for family, friends, doctors, lawyers, and community agencies.
  • Clothing, toiletries and comfort items for you and the children.

If you’re thinking about leaving or want to know how you can help someone living with violence, please view the National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges website. It provides important information for making long term plans for a safe future:

No one deserves to be abused. Women and children don’t “ask for it”.
